Policies

This course is offered online, over the Internet using Canvas, HSU’s learning management system. This allows you to access the course materials from a computer with any standard web browser already installed. One of the exciting advantages of online learning is that you can plan your class time to fit your schedule. However, it is important to balance this flexibility with your new responsibility of scheduling your own learning

Need Help?

If you have questions about the course, such as concepts covered in the course, your assignments, or scores post your question in the Ask Questions Here forum in the Discussion link on the left navigation menu. (Be sure to offer your assistance there, too, when you can!) You may also contact the facilitators, by email, or by appointment.

For technical questions, such as the suitability of your home computer for the course, installing plug-ins, problems with your password, etc., contact the HSU Help Desk (help@humboldt.edu or 707-826-4357).

Learning Environment and Accessibility

This blended workshop is designed using online resources for acquiring course content, while activities, assignments, discussions, and assessments will be completed in person or using the Canvas LMS. The course will make use of the following Canvas tools: Discussion, Collaboration, Assignment, Quiz, and a few other tools. Please be sure to read all lessons and documents in the workshop, including Overviews, so that you have the necessary information to complete the required learning activities.

This course was developed with accessibility in mind. However, if you discover something in the course that is not as accessible, please let us know right away.  It is very important to us that all students have access to all information.

Persons who wish to request disability-related accommodations should contact the Student Disability Resource Center in HS 71, 826-4678 (voice) or 826-5392 (TDD). Some accommodations may take up to several weeks to arrange. Student Disability Resource Center website.

What to Expect from your Facilitators

  • One of us will respond to your inquiries within 24 hours.
  • If you don't hear from your instructor within 24 hours, assume we did not receive your message (issues do occur with technology!) and make contact again.
  • Feedback/grades on learning activities will be posted in Canvas Grades within 48 hours of completion. Our goal, however, is for all participants to be collaborating with each other and all the librarians and staff who have access to this course
  • We are here to support you in your learning journey and are available to provide further resources for you as you navigate the material, technology, and concepts in this workshop. Please let us know how we can help!

What your Facilitators Expect from You

This is a model for you to use in your courses - not really directed at the participants in this course

  • Review the due dates for the assignments on the Course Schedule.
  • Take the student Online Readiness Survey to understand your own readiness for this learning format.
  • Academic Integrity: Plagiarism and cheating are very serious offenses that can result in failure of an assignment or the course. They are also offenses to your own personal honor and respect for your personal capabilities. All of your assignments are expected to be your own original work, and you are expected to properly reference material that you use which is not your original work.  It is your responsibility for knowing the policy regarding academic honesty.
