Instructor provides opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and connects their individual learning goals with the expectations (stated learning objectives and outcomes) of the instructor.
Instructor uses discussion threads to ask students (1) if they have any questions and (2) to reflect on their progress toward their learning objectives and outcomes. This discussion is most effective when you refer to a start-of-class prompt that asks students to define their in-class learning goals.

Example
In this capstone course, students create a portfolio of their coursework, including work that they may already have completed in the Anthropology program. This portfolio utilizes a personal blog that the student can "take" with them once they graduate. Two final pieces of the portfolio are the "fantasy proposal" for a dream project five years in the future, and "job interview" presentations designed by classmates and based on completed portfolios. The entire portfolio is an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning in the course and in the program as a whole. The instructor provides summative feedback on student blogs.
